The pack saddles, shown in the photos on this page, are $2,800 and include the following features:
All of the fittings used in the Pack Saddles are stainless steel, for strength and durability. The rigging straps are Apollo strapping - again for their strength, durability and light weight.
The breastplate and breeching are backed with chrome tanned leather that is folded on the edges. This eliminates rubbing and makes the strap work easy to clean. The rigging consists of stainless steel Bates buckles and slides on both sides which enable easy adjustment, even when the packs are in place. This is attached to a tree by a "V" strap that helps stabilise them.
We recommend the use of leather pack bags. There is minimal weight difference between these and other types of synthetic materials that are used in some bags, however this is more than compensated for by their durability.

We use a 4mm chrome tanned leather in our bags which proves tougher yet lighter than traditional leather bags. Correct packing of the load and the fit of the saddle are more important to the comfort of the horse than a few extra kilos of weight.

These bags have an extra reinforced panel at the top of the rear of the bags where they come in contact with the tree.
Other positions that may be predisposed to wearing have been reinforced. These include the covers over the arch hooks, so the top loaded swags or other light weight gear will not be punctured by the hooks.

Pack Saddle without Bags
Note the arch covers that protect top loaded swags
and the skirt that protects the pack bags from rubbing on trees
We also have "wear leathers" on the front of the bags so that the surcingle won't rub the bottom edge of the pack bags. There are also "wear leathers" on the bottom edge of the panels to stop rubbing from the rigging. A leather skirt protects the bags from rubbing on the panel and tree. All of the features can be seen in the photos.
The ends of the breeching and breastplate have stainless steel D's sewn in and are attached to reinforced D's on the panel of the tree by small meter straps. The advantage of this method of rigging is that the same breastplate and breeching can be used on different size horses without having excess strapping hanging loose. The extra pair of meter straps can then help give a better fit on a greater range of horse. it also eliminated wear points when traditional fixed leather straps have to be pulled at an angle to fit different size horses.
